Food Donations Needed

There is still an urgent need for food donations at the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP). Donations maybe dropped off at the Hethwood Foundation office. We have already taken several bags of food to help local folks. Items that are requested are non-perishable food items such as canned meat and fish, dried bean and rice, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, spaghetti noodles and sauce, Hamburg Helper, breakfast food like pop tarts and cereal bars. MCEAP assists families in immediate, temporary and emergency situations. If you would like to learn more or volunteer, visit http://civic.bev.net/mceap or call 381-1561.

Hethwood Will Recycle Your Old Batteries, CFLs and Cell Phones

As part of our ongoing "Green Initiative" we will accept the following:

Just collect a few (place them in a plastic bag ) and bring them by the Hethwood Foundation office and we’ll take care of the rest!

Ride the Bus!

The Hethwood community is well served by Blacksburg Transit. You can pick up the bus in our community at several stops in Foxridge, as well as on Hethwood Boulevard, Tall Oaks Drive, and Heather Drive. You do not always have to drive. In fact in many situations such as football/sports games you can ride the bus and get dropped off right at the door of the facility-no long walks from crowded parking lots!

Want to go to Roanoke? Take the Smart Bus! Check out the Blacksburg Transit web site @ www.btransit.org/ .

Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Facility

We are lucky enough to have a fairly convenient location to get rid of trash, branches, broken furniture….the list could go on. The Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Facility is located just a few miles away in Christiansburg. Take the same exit you would use to go to Lowes except when you get to the top of the exit turn left. Follow the road till it bears left onto Cinnabar Drive and you will see the facility on the right. In order to "dump" items you must go when the scales are open Monday-Friday from 8AM-4PM and Saturday from 8AM-12:30PM. The minimum charge for up to 100 lbs. of waste is $2.55. For more detailed information feel free to call 381-2820.
