Healthy 2012 Wellness Lectures - $20 Special

Boost Your Immune System, Monday, February 6 at 6-7 p.m. - Learn to eat foods, spices, drink beverages that all boost your immune system and support your body when ill. Take home valuable recipes, and a list of therapeutic antioxidants, phytonutrients, organic foods, and supplements that support the immune system. As well, grasp the effects of harm- ful food ingredients and their role in compromising the immune system.

Survive Stress Successfully, Wednesday, February 8 at 6-7 p.m. – Live breathing exercise and guided meditation. Learn the effects of stress on the body and how to assess your stress level. Take home Survive Stress Successfully lecture transcript highlighting healthy foods, hydration, exercise, natural remedies, relaxation techniques, and lifestyle tips. Conquer Depression & SAD, Monday, February 13 at 6 -7 p.m. – Conquer Depression and SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) lecture discusses the common mood disorders (depression, bi-polar, paranoia, seasonal mood swings). Get your life back and smile daily with valuable information focusing on nutritional therapy, exer- cise, relaxation techniques, supplementation, bodywork, and positive thinking.

Chronic Pain & Inflammation, Wednesday, February 15 at 6 -7 p.m. – Learn to use pain as a pathway for better healing. This wellness lecture will address the four basic pain centers, common paths to pain, and how to assuage and/or alleviate pain with nutrition, bodywork, supplements, and other holistic modalities. Topics also discussed include prescriptions for pain low back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic Lyme disease, sciatica, neck and shoulder pain. The talk will conclude with a 10 minute meditation.

Juicing & Detoxify the Body, Monday, February 20 at 6-7 p.m. – Live juicing demonstration and tips for the left- over vegetable/fruit fiber. Out with the old and in with a new you! Detoxification cleanses the body, mind, and spirit of environmental, diet, and prescription toxic residues. Not only will your body feel great after detoxification, but your weight will reduce as well! Learn how to detoxify the body safely with nutrition, exercise, supplements, relaxation techniques, and body therapy.

$20 fee includes cost of all materials and all of the above. Just show up and enjoy! All lectures will take place at the Huntsman Clubhouse at 2631 Sheffield Dr.

Town of Blacksburg Crime Prevention Education Classes

Beginning in January 2012, Blacksburg Police will begin offering crime prevention education to the public. Classes will be scheduled on the last Monday of each month in the Blacksburg Police Department Training Room, 200 Clay St. SW, with a different topic for each class. The classes are offered free of charge but space is limited. To register, email Shaylin McNeil at smcneil@blacksburg.gov.

Classes Offered

Refuse to be a Victim – January 30, 2012 6-9PM, This is a three hour, comprehensive crime prevention education presentation that covers a large variety of crime prevention topics including personal protection, home security, travel security and more.
Identity Theft Prevention – February 27, 2012 6-8PM, Learn about the dangers of identity theft and measures that can be taken to decrease the likelihood of becoming a victim.
Home Security—March 26, 2012 6-8PM, Learn ways to make your home less desirable to would be burglars.

Food Donations Needed!

The shelves are bare and there is an urgent need for food donations at the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP).

Donations may be dropped off at (MCEAP) Parks & Recreation’s front office at the Government Center or at the Hethwood Foundation office. Foods that are needed include:
